Press Quotes to Tanzprojekt (older productions)
We are reminded of Isabella Eberhard by this sandstorm on the stage of the Theatersaal Rigiblick, which Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth conjures up in a wild dance, in exceptional twists, in a powerful play. And as this storm calms and the words of the desert traveler Eberhardt become audible “You are only free as long as you are alone”, the dancer dances without a net and a double floor, without a bar and sand, but just with herself, the body – solo. The solo dance of a woman who can rely on herself.
Neue Zuercher Zeitung
Contemporary dance is not only shaped emotion, but also the crystal-clear work of mind. This has been demonstrated wonderfully by Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth – the brittle poetry in “KoerperSand” (“BodySand”) portrays a thousand encounters and references in a single person.
No flood of pictures, no spectacular contortions, no disappearance of the human factor and the all-too human factor, but instead a field of tension between seeing and visualizing, these are the qualities of this dance theater. Thanks to an exquisite crew of musicians, light-, costume-, stage- and directing artists “KoerperSand” can unfold its great emotional impact and let the audience judge with a clear mind: Elfi Schaefer-Schafroth impacts us deeply while letting us decipher body language with ease.
Oltener Tagblatt / Neue Mittelland Zeitung
